Abstract
Some examples provide a method for processing a renewable lipid feedstock comprising fatty acid glycerol esters. The method may include heating the renewable lipid feedstock, in the absence of a catalyst, to a temperature in the range of about 450° C. to about 550° C., using a heat flux greater than about 6000 BTU/ft2/hour to generate a hot lipid stream substantially without forming coke.
Claims22
A method for processing a renewable lipid feedstock comprising fatty acid glycerol esters, the method comprising:
- heating the renewable lipid feedstock, in the absence of a catalyst, to a temperature in the range of about 450° C. to about 550° C., using a heat flux greater than about 6000 BTU/ft2/hour to generate a hot lipid stream substantially without forming coke,
- wherein less than 40% of the hot lipid stream is lighter than T10 of the lipid feedstock.
A method for processing a renewable lipid feedstock comprising fatty acid glycerol esters, the method comprising:
- heating the renewable lipid feedstock, in the absence of a catalyst, to a temperature in the range of about 450° C. to about 550° C., using a heat flux greater than about 6000 BTU/ft2/hour to generate a hot lipid stream substantially without forming coke,
- wherein the renewable lipid feedstock comprises at least about 5 ppm chlorine as an impurity, or at least about 10 ppm phosphorous as an impurity.
A system for processing a renewable lipid feedstock comprising fatty acid glycerol esters, the system comprising:
- a heater to generate a hot lipid stream, substantially without forming coke, by heating the renewable lipid feedstock, in the absence of a catalyst, to a temperature in the range of about 450° C. to about 550° C., using a heat flux greater than about 6000 BTU/ft2/hour,
- wherein less than 40% of the hot lipid stream is lighter than T10 of the lipid feedstock.

- wherein the renewable lipid feedstock comprises at least about 5 ppm chlorine as an impurity or at least about 10 ppm phosphorous as an impurity.
