A method of operating a static transfer switch (STS) system for transferring power between power sources, the STS system including a first alternate-current (AC) switch assembly and a second AC switch assembly directly electrically connected to and in communication with each other, the first AC switch assembly including a first current interrupter configured to connect a load to or disconnect the load from a first power source and a first controller, the second AC switch assembly including a second current interrupter configured to connect the load to or disconnect the load from a second power source and a second controller, the first AC switch assembly integrated into a module, the method comprising:
- via the first controller, controlling the first current interrupter and the second current interrupter, directly monitoring an output power to the load and the first power source, and monitoring the second power source based on communication with the second AC switch assembly;
- via the second controller, controlling the first current interrupter and the second current interrupter, directly monitoring the output power to the load and the second power source, and monitoring the first power source based on communication with the first AC switch assembly;
- determining, via each of the first AC switch assembly and the second AC switch assembly, whether a disturbance is detected in the output power, the first power source, and/or the second power source;
- and
- initiating, via each of the first AC switch assembly and the second AC switch assembly, power transfer between the first power source and the second power source, in response to determining that the disturbance is detected in the output power, the first power source, and/or the second power source, utilizing the first current interrupter and the second current interrupter.
