Waveform indication in wireless communication networks

A User Equipment (UE), comprising:

• a receiver configured to receive a downlink control message from a radio network, the downlink control message having a format and having been scrambled with a radio network temporary identifier, RNTI;
• a processor configured to select a waveform type from two or more waveform types including an orthogonal frequency divisional multiplexing, OFDM, and a Fourier transform spread-OFDM, DFTS-OFDM, for an upcoming uplink transmission to the radio network node, the waveform type being selected based on a combination of the format of the downlink control message, the RNTI used to scramble the downlink control message, and a radio resource control, RRC, configuration of the UE, wherein
• the format of the downlink control message includes the size of a corresponding uplink grant;
• and
• a transmitter configured to transmit the uplink transmission to the radio network node using the selected waveform type.
