Foldable firearm

A foldable firearm comprising:

• a receiver configured to couple to a foldable trigger grip assembly;
• a barrel having a muzzle, the barrel received in the receiver;
• a top shell at least partially surrounding the barrel, the top shell having an ambidextrous charging handle assembly and a locking mechanism arranged thereon;
• and
• a bottom shell at least partially surrounding the receiver, the bottom shell having a hinged tail, wherein the hinged tail is configured to:
• rotate about a pivot axis on the bottom shell, detachably engage with the locking mechanism when the foldable firearm is in a folded configuration, and disengage from the locking mechanism via actuating the ambidextrous charging handle assembly,
• wherein at least a portion of the hinged tail is located proximate the muzzle when the foldable firearm is in a folded configuration, and wherein the muzzle is at least partially covered by the hinged tail in response to the foldable firearm being in the folded configuration.
