Abstract
A method of preparing an implantable biomaterial includes combining a polymer with a neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent selected from a group comprising at least one of: rapamycin, cyclosporine A, or analogs thereof, melting the polymer, and extruding the polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent to form the implantable biomaterial.
Claims21
A method of preparing an implantable biomaterial, comprising:
- combining a polymer with a neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent selected from a group comprising at least one of:
- rapamycin, cyclosporine A, or analogs thereof;
- melting the polymer by heating the polymer, within an extruder, to a temperature within about 150 degrees Celsius to about 250 degrees Celsius;
- and
- extruding the polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent to form the implantable biomaterial.

A method of preparing an implantable biomaterial, comprising:
- combining a polymer with at least one of:
- rapamycin, cyclosporine A, or analogs thereof;
- melting the polymer;
- in a first extrusion, extruding the combined polymer and the rapamycin with an extruder to form a first biomaterial having a first concentration of the rapamycin;
- and
- in a second extrusion, extruding the first biomaterial and additional polymer to form the implantable biomaterial with a second concentration of rapamycin.
