Abstract
Methods, systems, and apparatuses are described for identifying unauthorized (e.g., rogue) access points. Authorized access points can detect the presence of rogue access points by determining signal strengths associated with other access points. A detected variance from an expected signal strength can indicate a presence of a rogue access point.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- determining, during provisioning process associated with a network device, a baseline signal strength value representing a signal strength value measured for the network device, wherein the network device is associated with a first network device identifier;
- determining a received signal strength value associated with the first network device identifier;
- based on a variance between the baseline signal strength value and the received signal strength value, determining that the first network device identifier is compromised;
- and
- based on determining the first network device identifier is compromised, sending, to the network device a second network device identifier.
2 more elements
An apparatus comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- a memory storing processor-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
- determine, during a provisioning process associated with a network device, a baseline signal strength value associated with the network device, wherein the network device is associated with a first network device identifier;
- determine a received signal strength value associated with the first network device identifier;
- based on a variance between the baseline signal strength value and the received signal strength value, determine that the first network device identifier is compromised;
- and
- based on determining the first network device identifier is compromised, send, to the network device, a second network device identifier.
5 more elements
A method comprising:
- determining, by a first network device during a provisioning process associated with a second network device, a baseline signal strength value associated with the second network device, wherein the second network device is associated with a network device identifier;
- determining a received signal strength value associated with the network device identifier;
- and
- based on a variance between the received signal strength value and the baseline signal strength value, sending a message to the second network device comprising a new network device identifier.
1 more element
A first network device apparatus comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- a memory storing processor-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
- determine, during an authorized provisioning or enrollment process associated with a second network device, a baseline signal strength value associated with the second network device, wherein the second network device is associated with a network device identifier;
- determine a received signal strength value associated with the network device identifier;
- and
- based on a variance between the received signal strength value and the baseline signal strength value, send a message to the second network device comprising a new network device identifier.
