A method, comprising:

• associating an amplification agent with a first species capable of participating in a molecular binding event that is associated with a surface of a semiconductor nanosensor, wherein:
• the amplification agent is associated with at least three binding agents via binding sites on the amplification agent;
• and
• wherein the binding agents comprise nanoparticles.
