A method for treating or preventing kidney disease in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a JAK inhibitor, wherein the kidney disease is selected from acute kidney disease (AKD) or acute kidney injury (AKI), wherein the JAK inhibitor is (3aR,5s,6aS)-N-(3-methoxy-1,2,4-thiadiazol-5-yl)-5-(methyl(7H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-yl)amino)hexahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrole-2(1H)-carboxamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
