The present disclosure relates to novel quaternary salt compounds including, in one embodiment, a cation having a quaternary ammonium group that is coupled to a N-substituted amino ketoacetate anion as a counterion.

A fuel composition comprising a major amount of a fuel and a minor amount of a fuel additive including a quaternary ammonium salt including (i) a cation having a quaternary ammonium group and (ii) a N-substituted amino ketoacetate anion.
