Skate blade sharpening system

A method of operating a skate blade sharpening system, the method comprising:

• receiving an input to perform at least one grinding operation with a grinding component using the skate blade sharpening system, the grinding component including an identification tag having interface circuitry and memory including a usage location configured to store a usage tracking value;
• communicating, using a transceiver of the skate blade sharpening system, with the interface circuitry of the identification tag to read a current usage tracking value from the usage location;
• determining whether to perform the at least one grinding operation based at least in part, on the current usage tracking value;
• in response to a determination to initiate the at least one grinding operation, performing the at least one grinding operation with the grinding component, wherein the grinding component is configured to be translated longitudinally relative to a bottom edge of a skate blade during grinding operations, the grinding component having an outer surface dimensioned and configured to grind the bottom edge of the skate blade;
• and
• communicating, using the transceiver, with the interface circuitry of the identification tag to write an update to the usage tracking value based, at least in part, on the at least one grinding operation.
