Process for conversion of waste to fuel

A method for conversion of food waste to biofuel, comprising:

• a first fermentation in which food waste is converted to C2-C4 short-chain carboxylic acids resulting in an aqueous phase comprising the C2-C4 short-chain carboxylic acids;
• a second fermentation in which in a fermentation broth comprising the aqueous phase, the C2-C4 short-chain carboxylic acid are elongated into C5-C8 medium-chain carboxylic acids;
• hydrogenation-dehydration of the medium-chain carboxylic acids into a C5-C8 linear olefins;
• oligomerizing the C5-C8 linear olefins to a C10-C25 mixture comprising C10-C25 olefins, C10-C25 paraffins, C10-C25 cycloparaffins, and C10-C25 aromatics through dimerization;
• and
• saturating the C10-C25 mixture by hydrogenation to produce the biofuel.
