Biosolids quality and dewaterability

A method for treating biosolids comprising:

• measuring one or more of pH, alkalinity, magnesium concentration, ortho-phosphorus concentration, total phosphorus content, ammonia content, total nitrogen content, total solids content, total volatile solids, polymer consumption, and metal salt consumption associated with a treatment process for wastewater solids;
• determining a metal salt dosage for amending the wastewater solids based upon, at least in part, an initial ortho-phosphorus concentration and a reduction capacity to reduce one or more of a calculated Omega-S value and a Struvite Precipitation Index value to a specified level;
• determining a magnesium compound dosage for amending the wastewater solids to achieve a desired condition within the wastewater solids including one or more of increasing the pH of the wastewater solids, decreasing the pH of the wastewater solids, and maintaining the pH of the wastewater solids relative to the measured pH, wherein the magnesium compound dosage is based upon, at least in part, a calculated anticipated change in the pH of the wastewater solids resulting from an addition of metal salts;
• and
• amending the treatment process with the metal salts to achieve the determined metal salt dosage and a magnesium compound to achieve the determined magnesium compound dosage.
