Abstract
A positive temperature coefficient component includes: a substrate (32); a conductive ink (36) disposed over at least a portion of the substrate (32); a positive temperature coefficient layer (38) disposed over at least a portion of the substrate (32) and/or the conductive ink (36); and a topcoat layer (42) formed from a coating composition including a dielectric material disposed over at least a portion of the positive temperature coefficient layer (38) and/or the conductive ink (36).
Claims17
A positive temperature coefficient component, comprising:
- a substrate;
- a conductive ink disposed over at least a portion of the substrate;
- a positive temperature coefficient layer disposed over at least a portion of the substrate and/or the conductive ink;
- wherein the positive temperature coefficient layer is formed from a conductive composition comprising a non-conductive material and conductive particles dispersed in the non-conductive material, and wherein the non-conductive material comprises:
- (a) a polyester polymer having a backbone comprising at least 12 consecutive carbon atoms between ester linkages, or (b) a wax;
- and
- a topcoat layer formed from a coating composition comprising a dielectric material disposed over at least a portion of the positive temperature coefficient layer and/or the conductive ink.
A method for self-regulating a temperature of a component, comprising:
- causing an electrical current to be applied to a positive temperature coefficient component comprising:
- a substrate;
- a conductive ink disposed over at least a portion of the substrate;
- a positive temperature coefficient layer disposed over at least a portion of the substrate and/or the conductive ink;
- wherein the positive temperature coefficient layer is formed from a conductive composition comprising a non-conductive material and conductive particles dispersed in the non-conductive material, and wherein the non-conductive material comprises:
- (a) a polyester polymer having a backbone comprising at least 12 consecutive carbon atoms between ester linkages, or (b) a wax;
- and
- a topcoat layer formed from a coating composition comprising a dielectric material disposed over at least a portion of the positive temperature coefficient layer and/or the conductive ink.
A method of preparing a positive temperature coefficient component, comprising:
- applying a coating composition comprising a dielectric material over at least a portion of a coated substrate to form a topcoat layer, the coated substrate comprising:
- a conductive ink disposed over at least a portion of a substrate;
- and
- a positive temperature coefficient layer disposed over at least a portion of the substrate and/or the conductive ink;
- wherein the positive temperature coefficient layer is formed from a conductive composition comprising a non-conductive material and conductive particles dispersed in the non-conductive material, and wherein the non-conductive material comprises:
- (a) a polyester polymer having a backbone comprising at least 12 consecutive carbon atoms between ester linkages, or (b) a wax.
