Abstract
A method for providing a fuel includes removing hydrogen sulfide and/or carbon dioxide from biogas to provide partially purified biogas, which is filled in a mobile storage system. The partially purified biogas is transported to a centralized processing facility, in the mobile storage system, by truck, rail, or ship. At the centralized processing the partially purified biogas is further processed, either to produce a fuel that is renewable or has renewable content, or to produce renewable natural gas, which is used to produce the fuel that is renewable or has renewable content.
Claims19
A method for producing fuel from biogas comprising:
- (a) partially purifying a first biogas from a first biogas source, wherein said first biogas comprises methane and carbon dioxide, wherein partially purifying said first biogas comprises removing one or more components from the first biogas to produce a first partially purified biogas having a heating value less than 950 BTU/scf, wherein the one or more components comprise hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, or a combination thereof, and wherein partially purifying said first biogas comprises using a stationary purification system;
- (b) partially purifying a second biogas from a second biogas source, wherein said second biogas comprises methane and carbon dioxide, wherein partially purifying said second biogas comprises removing one or more components from the second biogas to produce a second partially purified biogas having a heating value less than 950 BTU/scf, wherein the one or more components comprise hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, or a combination thereof, and wherein partially purifying said second biogas comprises using a second other stationary purification system;
- (c) feeding the first and second partially purified biogas into first and second vessels, respectively, such that each partially purified biogas is pressurized to at least 1500 psig;
- (d) transporting or arranging for the transport of the first vessel containing the first partially purified biogas from the first biogas source to a destination via a direct route and the second vessel containing the second partially purified biogas from the second biogas source to the destination via a second other direct route using one or more vehicles;
- (e) removing the partially purified biogas from each vessel transported in step (d) and reducing the pressure thereof;
- and
- (f) producing fuel other than renewable natural gas using methane derived from the partially purified biogases removed in step (e).
