Methods and arrangements for a payment instrument with an evolving design

A payment instrument comprising:

• a bottom layer;
• one or more intermediate layers, wherein at least one of the one or more intermediate layers comprises:
• a chip;
• a reactive medium;
• and
• one or more beads comprising a reactive agent, the reactive agent to coat at least part of a surface of the reactive medium to cause a change over time of an appearance of the reactive medium;
• and
• a top layer, the top layer wherein at least part of the surface of the reactive medium is visible through the top layer.

A method to create a payment instrument with an evolving design, the method comprising:

• providing a bottom layer;
• attaching one or more intermediate layers, wherein at least one of the one or more intermediate layers comprise:
• a chip;
• a reactive medium;
• and
• one or more reservoirs comprising a reactive agent, the one or more reservoirs configured to release the reactive agent over time onto the reactive medium to cause a visible change on at least part of a surface of the reactive medium;
• and
• attaching a top layer, wherein at least part of the surface of the reactive medium is visible through the top layer.
