Abstract
A method for processing data in an Ethernet protocol stack is disclosed. The method includes receiving client data for transmission via an Ethernet bus, and selectively transmitting the client data over the Ethernet bus by one of packet switching or non-packet-switching transmission based on an identity of the originating client device.
Claims11
A method for processing data in an Ethernet protocol stack, comprising:
- receiving, at a processing device, client data for transmission via an Ethernet bus, and
- determining, by the processing device, whether to transmit the client data over the Ethernet bus by one of a packet switching or a non-packet-switching transmission mode based on an identity of an originating client device, and
- in response to determining to transmit the client data over the Ethernet bus by non-packet-switching transmission, bypassing a MAC layer by using a time-division multiplexing shim layer between a PHY layer and a MAC layer.
An apparatus for processing data in an Ethernet protocol stack, comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory comprising machine-readable instructions executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to perform,
- receiving client data for transmission via an Ethernet bus, and
- determining whether to transmit the client data over the Ethernet bus by one of packet switching or non-packet-switching transmission based on an identity of an originating client device, and
- in response to determining to transmit the client data over the Ethernet bus by non-packet-switching transmission, bypassing MAC layer by using a time-division multiplexing shim layer between a PHY layer and a MAC layer.
