Abstract
An outdoor camera integrated into an alarm system for property monitoring, configured to monitor a property. The alarm system can have a base station that communicates with all the components of the alarm system, such as an outdoor camera, which can be equipped with an imaging sensor and software capabilities to conduct analysis on data collected by the outdoor camera to determine information about a human or non-human visitor at the property. The outdoor camera provides information about detected events at the property to the base station, where the data can be used to take appropriate action at the property and communicate with either the user or a monitoring service.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- acquiring, by a camera of a security system monitoring a property, first image data, the camera positioned at a first location at the property and including an imaging device that acquires the first image data;
- determining, by a processor of the camera, that a base station of the security system is in an armed state, the base station being distinct from the camera and positioned at a second location at the property different from the first location, the base station coordinating operations of the camera with other components of the security system to selectively place the security system in an armed state or a disarmed state;
- based on the base station being in the armed state, analyzing, by the processor of the camera, the first image data according to first criteria to identify a first event;
- acquiring, by the imaging device of the camera, second image data;
- determining, by the processor of the camera, that the base station is in the disarmed state;
- based on the base station being in the disarmed state, analyzing, by the processor of the camera, the second image data according to second criteria, different than the first criteria, to identify a second event different than the first event;
- and
- sending, from the camera to at least a first device, first data indicative of the first event.
A security system, comprising:
- a base station positioned at a first location at a property monitored by the security system, the base station coordinating operations of components of the security system at the property to selectively place the security system in an armed state or a disarmed state;
- and
- a camera, distinct from the base station and positioned at a second location at the property different from the first location, the camera including an imaging device that acquires image data from the property and a processor that analyzes the image data acquired by the imaging device, wherein the camera operates in a selected one of (A) a first mode in which the processor of the camera analyzes the image data acquired by the imaging device according to first criteria to identify first events, and sends first data indicative of the first events to at least a first device, and (B) a second mode in which the processor of the camera analyzes the image data acquired by the imaging device according to second criteria, different than the first criteria to identify second events;
- wherein the camera operates in the first mode in response to determining that the base station is in the armed state and operates the second mode in response to determining that the base station is in the disarmed state.
A camera for use in a security system monitoring a property, the security system including a base station, distinct from the camera, positioned at a first location at the property different from a second location at the property at which the camera is positioned, the base station coordinating operations of the camera with other components of the security system to selectively place the security system in an armed state or a disarmed state, the camera comprising:
- an imaging device;
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the camera to:
- acquire first image data using the imaging device;
- determine that the base station is in the armed state;
- based on the base station being in the armed state, analyze the first image data according to first criteria to identify a first event;
- acquire second image data using the imaging device;
- determine that the base station is in the disarmed state;
- based on the base station being in the disarmed state, analyze the second image data according to second criteria, different than the first criteria, to identify a second event different than the first event;
- and
- send, to at least a first device, first data indicative of the first event.
