Abstract
A method of processing magnetite iron ore, including the step of using a high pressure grinding roller (HPGR) to crush the magnetite. An apparatus for processing magnetite iron ore, including a first high pressure grinding roller for crushing the magnetite, a dry screen for selectively feeding back material to the first high pressure grinding roller, an air classifier for selectively feeding back material to the second high pressure grinding roller, a second high pressure grinding roller for grinding the magnetite, and a dry magnetic separation (DMS) unit for discarding non-magnetic materials, wherein the dry magnetic separation unit is outside the two feedback loops associated with the first and second high pressure grinding rollers.
Claims16
A magnetite iron ore processing apparatus, comprising:
- a first high pressure grinding roller (“HPGR”) configured to operate in a crushing mode for crushing the magnetite into coarse particles;
- a second high pressure grinding roller (“HPGR”) configured to operate in a grinding mode for grinding the coarse particles into fine particles;
- and
- a dry magnetic separation (“DMS”) unit for discarding non-magnetic materials from the crushed magnetite prior to grinding,
- wherein each of the HPGRs has a separate feedback loop associated therewith for recycling particles through the respective HPGRs, with the dry magnetic separation unit being disposed outside the two feedback loops associated with the first and second HPGRs.
A method of processing magnetite iron ore via two, separate high pressure grinding roller (“HPGR”) circuits, including:
- crushing the magnetite with a first of the HPGR circuits using a HPGR that is configured to operate in a crushing mode and using a dry magnetic separation (DMS) unit to remove non-magnetic waste material from the crushed magnetite prior to grinding the magnetite with a second of the HPGR circuits using a HPGR that is configured to operate in a grinding mode, wherein the DMS unit is disposed outside of the respective HPGR circuits, to allow for the optimization of each of the HPGR circuits to reduce power consumption.
