Video-based point cloud compression (V-PCC) component synchronization

A point cloud compression (PCC) decoder comprising:

• a memory configured to store instructions;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute the instructions to cause the PCC decoder to:
• receive a point cloud bitstream comprising components, wherein the components comprise an atlas frame timing supplemental enhancement information (SEI) message;
• perform buffering of the point cloud bitstream based on a time, wherein the time is based on a delay and a delay offset, and wherein the time, the delay, and the delay offset are variables derived from syntax element values of the point cloud bitstream;
• and
• decode the point cloud bitstream based on the buffering.

A method implemented by a point cloud compression (PCC) decoder and comprising:

• receiving, by the PCC decoder, a point cloud bitstream;
• performing, by the PCC decoder, buffering of the point cloud bitstream based on a delay, wherein the delay is based on a maximum value between a first value and a second value, wherein the first value is based on a first delay, wherein the second value is based on a second delay, and wherein the delay, the first delay, and the second delay are variables derived from syntax element values of the point cloud bitstream;
• and
• decoding, by the PCC decoder, the point cloud bitstream based on the buffering.
