Simplified most probable mode list generation scheme

A method of video decoding using at least one processor, the method comprising:

• receiving a reference line index indicating a reference line among a zero reference line of a current block and one or more non-zero reference lines of the current block, the zero reference line corresponding to a first most probable mode (MPM) list, the one or more non-zero reference lines corresponding to a second MPM list;
• receiving an intra mode index indicating an intra prediction mode in the first MPM list or the second MPM list;
• and
• generating the first MPM list and the second MPM list, each of the first MPM list and the second MPM list comprising a plurality of angular intra prediction modes, wherein the first MPM list includes a first plurality of indexes corresponding to the plurality of angular intra prediction modes,
• the second MPM list includes a second plurality of indexes corresponding to the plurality of angular intra prediction modes,
• the first plurality of indexes is same as the second plurality of indexes,
• the first MPM list further comprises one or more non-angular intra prediction modes, and
• the second MPM list does not include the one or more non-angular intra prediction modes.

A method of processing visual media data, the method comprising:

• processing a bitstream of the visual media data according to a format rule, wherein
• the bitstream includes a reference line index and an intra mode index, the reference line index indicating a reference line among a zero reference line of a current block and one or more non-zero reference lines of the current block, the zero reference line corresponding to a first most probable mode (MPM) list, the one or more non-zero reference lines corresponding to a second MPM list, the intra mode index indicating an intra prediction mode in the first MPM list or the second MPM list;
• and
• the format rule specifies that
• the first MPM list and the second MPM list comprise a plurality of angular intra prediction modes,
• the first MPM list includes a first plurality of indexes corresponding to the plurality of angular intra prediction modes,
• the second MPM list includes a second plurality of indexes corresponding to the plurality of angular intra prediction modes,
• the first plurality of indexes is same as the second plurality of indexes,
• the first MPM list further comprises one or more non-angular intra prediction modes, and
• the second MPM list does not include the one or more non-angular intra prediction modes.
