Bandwidth estimation adaption for network stalls

An electronic device comprising:

• a camera;
• a wireless transceiver;
• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• placing a first data packet in a network buffer;
• determining, at a first time, that the network buffer is full;
• determining, at a second time that is after the first time, that the network buffer is no longer full;
• based on the determining that the network buffer is no longer full, transitioning from a first state to a second state;
• receiving a first feedback message comprising an identifier of the first data packet and a time of receipt of the first data packet;
• determining, based on the time of receipt of the first data packet, a first bandwidth estimation value;
• based on transition from the first state to the second state, determining whether a network stall has occurred based on comparing the first bandwidth estimation value to a stored bandwidth estimation value;
• and
• based on the transitioning from the first state to the second state, determining whether to update the stored bandwidth estimation value based on determining whether the network stall has occurred.

A method comprising:

• placing a first data packet in a network buffer of an electronic device;
• determining, at a first time, that the network buffer is full;
• determining, at a second time that is after the first time, that the network buffer is no longer full;
• based on the determining that the network buffer is no longer full, transitioning from a first state to a second state, wherein transitioning from the first state to the second state causes the electronic device to determine whether a network stall has occurred prior to updating a stored bandwidth estimation value;
• receiving a first feedback message comprising an identifier of the first data packet and a time of receipt of the first data packet;
• determining, based on the time of receipt of the first data packet, a first bandwidth estimation value;
• and
• based on the transitioning from the first state to the second state, determining whether to update the stored bandwidth estimation value based on comparing the first bandwidth estimation value to the stored bandwidth estimation value.
