Abstract
A system and a method for generating a combined 3D model (95) of a sample comprising a sample imaging system (1) configured to generate a first 3D model (25) of the sample, a slice imaging system (2) configured to generate a second 3D model (615) of the sample, and a combiner engine (90) configured to generate a combined 3D model (95) based on the first 3D model and the second 3D model of the sample.
Claims18
A system comprising:
- a sample imaging system configured to:
- acquire, prior to slicing the sample, a plurality of first sensor data sets related to an outer surface of the sample and
- generate a first 3D model based on the plurality of first sensor data sets;
- a slice imaging system configured to:
- acquire, after slicing the sample into slices, a plurality of second sensor data sets related to the slices of the sample and
- generate a second 3D model based on the plurality second data sets;
- and
- a combiner engine configured to generate a combined 3D model of the sample based on the first 3D model of the sample and the second 3D model of the sample,
- wherein the combiner engine is configured to calculate a matching score configured to indicate a fitness level of the at least one cross-sectional view on the first 3D model,
- wherein the matching score is calculated based on a fitness between edges of the at least one cross-sectional view and edges of the first 3D model and
- wherein the combiner engine is configured to fit the at least one cross-sectional view to the first model such that said matching score can be maximized.

A method for generating a combined 3D model of a sample, the method comprising the steps of:
- acquiring, prior to slicing the sample, a plurality of first sensor data sets related to an outer surface of the sample via at least one sensor device;
- processing with a data processing device the plurality of first sensor data sets to extract general structure data related to the sample;
- acquiring, after slicing the sample into slices, a plurality of second sensor data sets related to the slices of the sample via a slice imaging device;
- processing with a 3D rendering engine the plurality of second sensor data sets to extract cross-sectional data related to the sample;
- and
- combining with a combiner engine the general structure data and the cross-sectional data to generate a combined 3D model of the sample;
- wherein the combiner engine calculates a matching score configured to indicate a fitness level of the at least one cross-sectional view on the first 3D model,
- wherein the matching score is calculated based on a fitness between edges of the at least one cross-sectional view and edges of the first 3D model and
- wherein the combiner engine fits the at least one cross-sectional view to the first model such that said matching score can be maximized.
