Abstract
Illustrated herein are systems and methods of transferring physical currency into electronic credit that becomes electronically available. One method includes remotely and quickly depositing non-negotiable instruments, such as cash, by communicating information, such as an image of the currency, about the instrument to a depositor. An exemplary system includes computing devices and a capture module with a retrieval engine, a transmission engine, an inspection engine, and a conferral engine. The capture module receives information about a non-negotiable instrument, and an inspection engine analyzes the information to confirm if the unit of currency is authentic.
Claims13
A system for remotely converting a physical unit of currency into an electronic value, the system comprising:
- a server having a processor and a memory, the server in communication via a communication network with a mobile computing device of a holder of the physical unit of currency that is remotely located from the server;
- wherein the processor of the server is configured to:
- receive an image of the physical unit of currency from the mobile computing device via the communication network;
- receive account identification information from the holder of the physical unit of currency into which the electronic value of the physical unit of currency is to be stored;
- determine whether the physical unit of currency is authentic based on the received image;
- in response to a failure to determine whether the physical unit of currency is authentic based on the received image, the processor is further configured to:
- transmit a request for additional information to the mobile computing device of the holder, the request for additional information including transmitting to the mobile computing device:
- a template depicting an image for display in a semi-transparent manner on the mobile computing device approximately contemporaneously with an image being taken of the physical unit of currency at the mobile computing device;
- instructions for causing the mobile computing device to present, concurrently with the template, audio or visual signals to a user of the mobile computing device to achieve alignment of an image of the physical unit of currency with the template;
- instructions for the mobile computing device to automatically take a picture of the physical unit of currency when the image depicted by the template and displayed on the mobile computing device aligns with a similar-looking image of the physical unit of currency on a display of the mobile computing device, wherein the instructions for the mobile computing device further comprise instructions for an amount of zoom or an amount of light to use for the picture to be taken.
A method for remotely converting a physical unit of currency into an electronic value, the method comprising:
- with a processor of a depositor server:
- receiving an image of a physical unit of currency of a depositor from a remotely located mobile computing device of the depositor via a communication network;
- receiving account identification information from the depositor of the physical unit of currency into which the electronic value of the physical unit of currency is to be stored;
- determining whether the physical unit of currency is authentic based on the received image;
- and
- in response to a failure to determine whether the physical unit of currency is authentic based on the received image, transmitting a request for additional information to the mobile computing device of the depositor of the physical unit of currency, the request for additional information including:
- a template depicting an image for display in a semi-transparent manner on the mobile computing device approximately contemporaneously with an image being taken of the physical unit of currency at the mobile computing device;
- and
- instructions for causing the mobile computing device to present, concurrently with the template, audio or visual signals to a user of the mobile computing device to achieve alignment of an image of the physical unit of currency with the template;
- and
- instructions for the mobile computing device to automatically take a picture of the physical unit of currency when the image depicted by the template and displayed on the mobile computing device aligns with a similar-looking image of the physical unit of currency on a display of the mobile computing device, wherein the instructions for the mobile computing device further comprise instructions for an amount of zoom or an amount of light to use for the picture to be taken.
A system for remotely converting a physical unit of currency into an electronic value, the system comprising:
- a server having a processor and a memory, the server in communication via a communication network with a mobile computing device of a depositor of the physical unit of currency that is remotely located from the server;
- wherein the processor of the server is configured to:
- transmit to the mobile computing device, via the communication network, a template depicting an image of only a portion of the physical unit of currency to be displayed in a semi-transparent manner on the mobile computing device of the depositor;
- transmit to the mobile computing device, via the communication network, instructions for the mobile computing device to automatically take a picture of the physical unit of currency when the template and the portion of the physical unit of currency concurrently displayed with the template in a display of the mobile computing device are aligned, wherein the instructions for the mobile computing device further comprise instructions for an amount of zoom or an amount of light to use for the picture to be taken;
- receive the picture of the physical unit of currency taken by the mobile computing device via the communication network;
- receive, from the mobile computing device, account identification information into which the electronic value of the physical unit of currency is to be stored;
- and
- determine whether the physical unit of currency is authentic based on the received picture.
