Abstract
A technique for selectively censoring sensitive information for presentation on a display of a computing device is disclosed. In some embodiments, the disclosed techniques may transmit the sensitive information after receiving an indication that the sensitive information is permitted to be displayed. In some embodiments, the sensitive information may be transmitted to an external device for viewing or listening by an authorized user.
Claims20
A system, comprising:
- a processor;
- a tangible, non-transitory, computer readable medium, comprising instructions that cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
- receiving an indication of data to be presented using a first device;
- determining that the data comprises a plurality of characters corresponding to sensitive information;
- censoring a first portion of the plurality of characters to generate censored user data in response to determining that the user data comprises the plurality of characters corresponding to the sensitive information;
- determining a proximity of a third party relative to the first device;
- determining a second portion of the plurality of characters comprising a different number of characters as compared to the first portion based on the proximity of the third party relative to the first device;
- censoring the second portion of the plurality of characters to generate updated censored user data;
- presenting the updated censored user data using the first device;
- and
- transmitting the data to a second device to be presented using the second device.
A method, comprising:
- receiving, via a processor, an indication of data to be presented using a first device;
- determining, via the processor, the data comprises a plurality of characters corresponding to sensitive information;
- censoring, via the processor, a first portion of the plurality of characters to generate censored user data in response to determining that the user data comprises the plurality of characters corresponding to the sensitive information;
- determining a proximity of a third party relative to the first device;
- determining a second portion of the plurality of characters comprising a different number of characters as compared to the first portion based on the proximity of the third party relative to the first device;
- censoring the second portion of the plurality of characters to generate updated censored user data;
- and
- transmitting, via the processor, the user data to a second device to be presented using the second device.
A tangible, non-transitory, machine-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
- receiving an indication of data to be presented using a first device;
- determining that the data comprises a plurality of characters corresponding to sensitive information;
- receiving data indicating a location that corresponds to the first device;
- determining that the first device is being used in a public location based on the location;
- censoring a first portion of the plurality of characters to generate censored user data in response to determining that the first device is being used in the public location;
- determining a proximity of a third party relative to the first device;
- determining a second portion of the plurality of characters comprising a different number of characters as compared to the first portion based on the proximity of the third party relative to the first device;
- censoring the second portion of the plurality of characters to generate updated censored user data;
- and
- presenting the censored user data comprising the censored second portion using the first device.
