Abstract
A method to guide a targeted neurostimulation to the brain of a patient. Neuroimaging data is sensed from the brain of the patient. A processor is used to evaluate the neuroimaging data in order to calculate result data for a modeled functional measure of a particular brain network which defines a first brain region and a second brain region. A target location is determined in the first brain region based upon the result data and a functional connection measure between first and second brain region. A transcranial magnetic stimulator is adjusted to provide a magnetic stimulation signal for stimulation of the target location.
Claims28
A method of guiding the provision of targeted magnetic neurostimulation of a patient suffering an unwanted symptom comprising:
- a. evaluating neuroimaging data that is magnetic resonance imaging data sensed from the brain of a patient;
- b. said evaluating neuroimaging data including operating a processor of a computer for calculating result data for at least one modeled functional connection measure value of a selected brain network model having a first brain region and at least a second brain region of said patient using said neuroimaging data;
- c. determining a target location of the first brain region of said patient, said target location being identified, at least in part, based upon the result data of the at least one modeled functional connection measure value, said at least one modeled functional connection measure value statistically measuring interaction of the first brain region and the at least second brain region, wherein the first brain region is a division within a left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the at least second brain region is a division within a cingulate region;
- d. adjusting at least one transcranial magnetic stimulator used to provide a magnetic stimulation signal for stimulation of the target location to treat the patient, wherein the magnetic stimulation signal is provided by at least one transcranial magnetic stimulator;
- and
- e. providing the magnetic stimulation signal by the at least one transcranial magnetic stimulator during an interval of a treatment therapy.
A method of guiding the provision of targeted magnetic neurostimulation of a patient suffering an unwanted symptom comprising:
- a. using evaluated neuroimaging data that is magnetic resonance imaging data sensed from the brain of a patient for treatment of a patient during a treatment session, said using of said evaluated neuroimaging data includes obtaining from a processor a processor calculated result data for at least one modeled functional connection measure value, said at least one modeled functional connection measure value statistically measuring interaction of a selected brain network model having a first brain region and at least a second brain region of said patient based upon said neuroimaging data;
- b. identifying a target location of the first brain region of said patient, said target location being at least in part based upon the processor calculated result data of at least one modeled functional connection measure value of the first brain region to the at least second brain region, wherein the first brain region is a division within a left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the at least second brain region is a division within a cingulate region;
- c. providing said target location for guiding the adjustment of at least one transcranial magnetic stimulator for generating a treatment magnetic stimulation signal for stimulation of the target location to treat the patient during the treatment session;
- and,
- d. providing the magnetic stimulation signal by the at least one transcranial magnetic stimulator during an interval of said treatment session.
