Abstract
A sensing accessory for detecting leakage in an ostomy device includes a sensor region. The sensor region has a plurality of electrodes providing a plurality of sensors arranged around a stoma-receiving opening. Each of the plurality of electrodes is arranged at a different radial distance from the stoma-receiving opening. A connector is connected at a first end to the plurality of electrodes and extends to a second terminal end that is configured for electrical connection to an external monitor device.
Claims18
A sensing accessory for detecting leakage in an ostomy device, the sensing accessory comprising:
- an adhesive layer attachable to skin of a user;
- a sensor region disposed distal to the adhesive layer, the sensor region comprising a plurality of electrodes providing a plurality of sensors configured to be arranged around a stoma-receiving opening of an ostomy base plate that is attachable to the sensing accessory, wherein the plurality of electrodes comprises a first electrode arranged at a different radial distance from the stoma-receiving opening than a second electrode;
- a connector connected at a first end to the plurality of electrodes and extending to a second terminal end of the connector;
- and
- a reinforcement element attached to the connector and comprising a conductive path;
- wherein the conductive path allows electrical communication between the plurality of sensors and an external monitor device that is attachable to the conductive path of the reinforcement element.
A sensor for determining moisture propagation relative to a stoma of a user, the sensor comprising:
- a plurality of electrodes provided on a sensing accessory that is attachable to an ostomy base plate, the plurality of electrodes providing a plurality of sensors configured to be arranged around a stoma-receiving opening of the ostomy base plate, wherein the plurality of electrodes includes electrodes arranged at different radial distances from the stoma-receiving opening, comprising:
- a first electrode located at a first radial distance from the stoma-receiving opening,
- a second electrode located at a second radial distance from the stoma-receiving opening,
- a third electrode located at a third radial distance from the stoma-receiving opening, with the first radial distance closer to the stoma-receiving opening than the third radial distance is from the stoma-receiving opening;
- a connector connected at a first end to the first electrode, the second electrode, and the third electrode;
- a reinforcement element connected to the connector and comprising an electrically conductive path, the reinforcement element provided to allow electrical connection between the plurality of electrodes and an external monitor device attachable to the electrically conductive path;
- wherein a measurement of an electrical resistance value for each of the first electrode, the second electrode, and the third electrode provides moisture propagation information relative to the stoma-receiving opening.
A sensing accessory for detecting leakage in an ostomy device, the sensing accessory comprising:
- an adhesive layer disposed on a proximal side of the sensing accessory and attachable to skin of a user;
- a sensor region disposed distal to the adhesive layer, the sensor region comprising a plurality of electrodes providing a plurality of sensors configured to be arranged around a stoma-receiving opening of an ostomy base plate that is attachable to a distal side of the sensing accessory, wherein the plurality of electrodes comprises a first electrode arranged at a different radial distance from the stoma-receiving opening than a second electrode;
- a connector comprising a conductive path communicating with the plurality of electrodes;
- wherein the conductive path allows electrical communication between the plurality of sensors and an external monitor device attachable to the connector;
- and
- a first sensor point opening formed as a first void in the adhesive layer and located at the first electrode;
- a second sensor point opening formed as a second void in the adhesive layer and located at the second electrode;
- wherein an electrical resistance value for the first electrode measured at the first sensor point opening and for the second electrode measured at the second sensor point opening provides moisture propagation information relative to different circumferential locations around the stoma-receiving opening.
