A method of safely removing visceral fat tissue deposits from within a human patient suffering from metabolic syndrome and having an abdominal region and a mesenteric region within the body of the human patient, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) creating laparoscopy portals through small incisions formed in a human patient's body, and infusing an inert gas into the abdominal region of the human patient to cause abdominal distension;
- (b) inserting a laparoscope into the abdominal region of the human patient so that a surgeon can capture video images of the abdominal region of the patient, and display the captured video images within the view of the surgeon;
- (c) inserting a powered fat tissue aspiration instrument into the mesenteric region of the human patient, wherein said powered fat tissue aspiration instrument has an instrument housing and a cannula assembly mounted with respect to said instrument housing;
- and
- (d) using said laparoscope to capture video images of the mesenteric region of the human patient, and displaying said video images to provide laparoscopic guidance to the surgeon while aspirating visceral fat tissue from the mesenteric region of the human patient so as to safely remove visceral fat tissue from the mesenteric region of the human patient.
