Two-step random access channel configuration

An apparatus for wireless communications at a wireless device, comprising:

• a processor,
• memory in electronic communication with the processor;
• and
• instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:
• receive a configuration for a first random access message of a two-step random access channel procedure;
• select a subcarrier spacing and a number of demodulation reference signal occurrences for transmitting the first random access message based at least in part on the configuration and a speed of the wireless device;
• and
• transmit the first random access message of the two-step random access channel procedure using the subcarrier spacing and the number of demodulation reference signal occurrences.

An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

• a processor,
• memory in electronic communication with the processor;
• and
• instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:
• transmit, to a first wireless device, a configuration for a first random access message of a two-step random access channel procedure;
• and
• receive the first random access message of the two-step random access channel procedure using a subcarrier spacing and a number of demodulation reference signal occurrences, wherein the subcarrier spacing and the number of demodulation reference signal occurrences are based at least in part on the configuration and a speed of the first wireless device.
