The UE can receive location assistance data from a network server, where the location assistance data includes information about a plurality of downlink reference signals that can be used to perform location related measurements by the UE. The UE can send a request to a base station for a reference signal. The reference signal is selected from the plurality of downlink reference signals of the location assistance data. Furthermore, the UE can receive the reference signal from the base station, and perform a location related measurement based on the received reference signal.
