Abstract
Components and arrangements for managing wave division multiplexing (WDM) filters of fiber optic networks. A flexible a substrate is used to fix a fiber routing scheme that corresponds to a cascading arrangement of WDM filters. The WDM filters can be packaged as a standalone unit for easier handling and splicing of fiber pigtails to the pre-arranged fiber routing scheme.
Claims10
A fiber routing arrangement, comprising:
- a flexible substrate;
- a plurality of filter optical connection locations provided along an edge of the flexible substrate, the filter optical connection locations each including a set of first and second optical fibers, each set of first and second optical fibers being coupled to a separate WDM filter;
- and
- fiber routing paths on the flexible substrate that optically connect the WDM filters in series with each other, each of the fiber routing paths extending in a first direction from one of the filter optical connection locations to another of the fiber optical connection locations in a second direction, the first direction being opposite the second direction,
- wherein at least one of the first and second optical fibers of the sets includes a bend on the flexible substrate such that two portions of the at least one of the first and second optical fibers both extend in the same direction from the edge of the flexible substrate to locations off of the flexible substrate and are spliced off the flexible substrate to fibers connected to two of the WDM filters;
- and
- wherein none of the fiber routing paths extends between two of the plurality of filter optical connection locations that are physically adjacent to each other.
