Abstract
The present invention provides compositions and methods for detecting and isolating disseminated tumor cells (DTCs) from breast cancer in a bone marrow aspirate of a subject. The invention further provides methods of treating breast cancer in the subject.
Claims2
A method of treating or preventing progression of breast cancer in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising the steps of isolating a sample from the subject, contacting the isolated sample with at least one labeled molecule that specifically binds to the cell surface marker CD49C in the sample, detecting binding of the at least one labeled molecule to the cell surface marker CD49C on a disseminated tumor cell (DTC) in the sample using flow cytometry, and administering to the subject an effective amount of a therapeutic agent for the treatment of breast cancer or prevention of breast cancer progression.
