Apparatus for generation of air-borne spray to remove malodor and contamination

A method for treating malodor or surfaces within an environment of a microbial or viral contamination, the method comprising:

• placing an apparatus in the environment that has malodor or surfaces having a microbial or viral contamination, the apparatus comprising:
• a container having therein water with a solid or a gel pak that upon contact with water releases a gaseous cleaning agent, wherein the container includes a lid with a nozzle;
• agitating the water within the container of the apparatus with an impeller configured to cause the water to form a vortex, the agitating causing the solid or gel pack to release a gaseous cleaning agent, the vortex generating an air-borne spray comprising the gaseous cleaning agent that flows upward and out of the container from the nozzle into the environment, the lid configured for knocking out at least some entrained liquid from the air-borne spray prior to exit from the nozzle;
• allowing the gaseous cleaning agent of the air-borne spray to dwell in the environment for an effective time to reduce the malodor or the microbial or viral contamination on the surfaces.
