Abstract
Coating compositions for coating an oilfield operational component, and related methods, may include in some aspects a coating composition having a trifunctional silane, a silanol, and a filler. The coating composition may be applied to a surface of the oilfield operational component that is configured to be exposed to a fluid. The coating composition may be applied to at least partially cover or coat the surface. The coating composition may be configured to chemically bond with a cured primer composition that includes an epoxy.
Claims30
A method for increasing a service life of a component configured to be used in an oilfield operation, the method comprising:
- at least partially coating with a first coating composition an interior surface of a component configured to be used in an oilfield operation to obtain a first coating layer bonded to a primer layer on the component, such that the component exhibits a comparison factor indicative of an increased resistance to wear greater than about 2, the comparison factor being indicative of a first amount of time ranging from about 500 hours to about 2000 hours during which a portion of the first coating layer wears to a first depth divided by a second amount of time ranging from about 500 hours to about 2000 hours during which a portion of the component without the first coating layer and the primer layer wears to a second depth equal to the first depth;
- incorporating the component into an oilfield operation;
- exposing the component to fluid flow in the oilfield operation for a first period of time;
- at least partially removing at least a portion of the first coating layer from the component;
- and
- at least partially coating with a second coating composition one or more of the first coating layer or the interior surface of the component to obtain a second coating layer on the component, wherein one or more of the first coating composition or the second coating composition comprises:
- trifunctional silane;
- silanol fluid;
- titanium dioxide in an amount ranging from about 0.01 wt % to about 15 wt %;
- one or more blue pigments;
- and
- filler,
- the first coating layer and the second coating layer being configured to reduce a wear-rate of the component as exposed to fluid flow associated with the oilfield operation, the trifunctional silane, the silanol fluid, the titanium dioxide, the one or more blue pigments, and the filler form T-resin units, the one or more of the first coating layer or the second coating layer comprising the T-resin units in an amount ranging from about 1.5 wt % to about 5 wt %, and each of the T-resin units forming two or more bonds with one or more of other T-resin units, the silanol fluid, the titanium dioxide, the filler, or the one or more blue pigments, thereby to provide the one or more of the first coating layer or the second coating layer with chemical resistance to one or more corrosive solvents of the fluid flow associated with the oilfield operation.
A method for increasing a service life of a component configured to be used in an oilfield operation, the method comprising:
- at least partially coating with a first coating composition an interior surface of a component configured to be used in an oilfield operation to obtain a first coating layer bonded to a primer layer on the component;
- incorporating the component into an oilfield operation;
- exposing the component to fluid flow in the oilfield operation for a first period of time;
- at least partially removing at least a portion of the first coating layer from the component;
- and
- at least partially coating with a second coating composition one or more of the first coating layer or the interior surface of the component to obtain a second coating layer on the component, the first coating composition and the second coating composition each comprises:
- trifunctional silane;
- silanol fluid;
- titanium dioxide in an amount ranging from about 0.01 wt % to about 15 wt %;
- and
- filler,
- the first coating layer and the second coating layer each forming T-resin units in an amount ranging from about 1.5 wt % to about 5 wt %, being configured to reduce a wear-rate of the component, and having chemical resistance to one or more corrosive solvents of the fluid flow associated with the oilfield operation.
