Abstract
Various powered mobility systems for users are described. The powered mobility system can include at least one powered skate. The powered skate can include a platform, a plurality of wheels, and a motor assembly. The motor assembly can include a motor. The motor can be powered by a power supply. A motor control can be implemented to determine when power is supplied to the motor from the power supply.
Claims22
A powered mobility system, comprising:
- a powered skate comprising:
- a frame comprising a platform configured to receive a user's foot and secure the user's foot within the platform;
- a plurality of wheels comprising a driving wheel disposed rearwardly from a heel end of the powered skate and a side wheel;
- a motor assembly comprising a motor and a drive shaft;
- a transmission assembly comprising a gear transmission, the gear transmission comprising at least a driving gear connected to the drive shaft and a driven gear configured to spin the driving wheel;
- a connector that couples the motor assembly to the frame, the connector being configured to flex when the powered skate rolls over non-flat riding surfaces, wherein the connector is biased in a direction towards a riding surface;
- a power supply configured to power the motor assembly and to cause the motor to spin the driving wheel;
- and
- a non-powered skate.

A powered skate, comprising:
- a frame comprising a platform configured to receive a portion of a user's foot and secure the portion of the user's foot within the platform such that the user's toes protrude forward of the platform;
- a plurality of wheels comprising a driving wheel disposed rearwardly from a heel end of the powered skate and a side wheel;
- a motor assembly comprising a motor and a drive shaft;
- a transmission assembly comprising a gear transmission, the gear transmission comprising at least a driving gear connected to the drive shaft and a driven gear configured to spin the driving wheel;
- a connector that couples the motor assembly to the frame, the connector being configured to flex when the powered skate rolls over non-flat riding surfaces, wherein the connector is biased in a direction towards a riding surface;
- and
- a power supply configured to power the motor assembly and to cause the motor to spin the driving wheel.
