Method and system for MBS switching and continuity in 5G wireless network

A user equipment (UE) for Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) switching and continuity in a 5th Generation (5G) wireless network, wherein the user equipment (UE) comprises:

• a memory;
• a processor;
• and a MBS switching and continuity controller, communicatively coupled to the memory and the processor configured to:
• establish a MBS session with a gNodeB;
• receive the at least one MBS from the gNodeB during the MBS session using a first delivery mode;
• receive an indication from the gNode indicating that the at least one MBS going to get suspended or deactivated, based on signal strength and channel quality reaching a configured threshold, prior to suspension or deactivation of the at least one MBS at the UE;
• and
• switch from the first delivery mode to a second delivery mode to continue reception of the at least one MBS based on a Media Access Control (MAC) control element (CE) prior to suspension or deactivation of the at least one MBS at the UE,
• wherein signal strength and channel quality are measured on a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) carrying MBS, and
• wherein the channel quality is determined by a channel quality indicator (CQI) parameter that is periodically measured by the UE and provided by the UE to the 5G wireless network.
