Method, apparatus and system for mobile device location determination

A method comprising:

• transmitting a request by a mobile device toward a first function which is remote from the mobile device and which operates in a network, the request being for locations of the mobile device at each of a first set of times, the request transmitted based on a determination, by the mobile device, that a local tracking operation requires the locations of the mobile device at each of the first set of times as determined by one or more devices in the network, in order to determine, within predetermined error bounds, a location of the mobile device at a second time;
• receiving, by the mobile device, a reply indicating the locations of the mobile device at each of the first set of times as determined by the one or more devices in the network;
• and
• performing, by the mobile device, the local tracking operation to determine the location of the mobile device at the second time, the local tracking operation based at least in part on the location of the mobile device at each of the first set of times, as indicated in the reply, and local input indicative of motion of the mobile device between at least one of the first set of times and the second time.
