Systems, methods, and devices for utilization aware memory allocation

A system comprising:

• a first storage device comprising:
• a first channel having a first channel utilization;
• and
• a second channel having a second channel utilization;
• a second storage device;
• and
• channel selection logic configured to:
• perform a first selection of the first storage device based on a memory allocation request, a first utilization of the first storage device, and a second utilization of the second storage device;
• perform a second selection of a first page group based on the memory allocation request, the first selection, the first channel utilization, and the second channel utilization, wherein the first page group comprises the first channel and wherein the first page group corresponds to a number of unallocated pages;
• and
• allocate a page of memory of the first first page group.

An apparatus comprising:

• a memory allocator configured to receive, from a process, a memory allocation request, the memory allocator comprising channel selection logic configured to:
• select, based on a first channel utilization of a first memory channel, a second channel utilization of a second memory channel, and a random policy, the first memory channel;
• perform, based on the first memory channel, a selection of a first page group, wherein the first page group comprises the first memory channel and wherein the first page group corresponds to a number of unallocated pages;
• and
• allocate, to the process, one or more pages of memory from the first page group.
