Abstract
An ophthalmic lens operable to protect the eye from harmful ultraviolet and high energy visible wavelengths of light and methods for producing the same.
Claims20
A laminate of an eye-glass lens comprising:
- a light absorbing layer containing one or more light absorbers is disposed between a first optical film and a second optical film;
- wherein a thickness of the laminate and a weight percent of the one or more light absorbers are configured to follow a non-linear relationship to achieve a transmittance of not more than 50 percent for wavelengths in a range of 280 to 443 nm.
An eyeglass lens comprising:
- a laminate having a polyurethane based adhesive layer containing one or more light absorbers which is disposed between a first optical film and a second optical film to form a three-layer structure of the laminate;
- wherein the three-layer structure of the laminate is configured to achieve a transmittance of not more than 50 percent for wavelengths in a range of 280 to 443 nm, when a non-linear relationship exists between a thickness of the laminate and a weight percent of the one or more light absorbers.
An eyeglass lens comprising:
- a light absorbing layer having a non-linear relationship between an optical path length and a weight percentage of light absorbing compounds in the light absorbing layer;
- the light absorbing layer having a transmittance of not more than 50 percent for wavelengths in a range of 280 to 443 nm;
- wherein:
- 1) the optical path length is greater than 1 mm and the weight percent of the light absorbing compounds up to 1;
- or
- 2) the optical path length is in a range of 0.1 mm to 1 mm and the weight percentage of the light absorbing compounds up to 3;
- or,
- 3) the optical path length is in a range of 0.01 mm and 0.1 mm and the weight percentage of the light absorbing compounds up to 10.
