System and method for RAN power and environmental orchestration

A network device in an application service layer network, the network device comprising:

• a processor configured to:
• generate a predictive utilization model for a radio access network (RAN), wherein the predictive model includes parameters of wireless stations that impact network power consumption;
• assign to each of the parameters a weight factor indicative of potential power savings associated with the parameter;
• generate power orchestration scenarios based on the predictive utilization model and the weight factors, wherein the power orchestration scenarios identify combinations of sector carriers for the wireless stations that can support the predicted conditions with reduced energy consumption when one or more of the parameters meet one or more thresholds for the parameters;
• store the power orchestration scenarios;
• determine, based on real-time utilization data of the RAN, a time to implement one of the power orchestration scenarios;
• and
• initiate reconfiguring the RAN at the time based on the one of the power orchestration scenarios.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by a processor of a device, which when executed cause the device to:

• generate a predictive utilization model for a radio access network (RAN), wherein the predictive model includes parameters of wireless stations that impact network power consumption;
• assign to each of the parameters a weight factor indicative of potential power savings associated with the parameter;
• generate power orchestration scenarios based on the predictive utilization model and the weight factors, wherein the power orchestration scenarios identify combinations of sector carriers for the wireless stations that can support the predicted conditions with reduced energy consumption when one or more of the parameters meet one or more thresholds for the parameters;
• store the power orchestration scenarios;
• determine, based on real-time utilization data of the RAN, a time to implement one of the power orchestration scenarios;
• and
• initiate reconfiguring the RAN at the time based on the one of the power orchestration scenarios.
