Method and apparatus for positioning reference signal configuration in a wireless communication system

A second cell in a wireless communication system, the second cell comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor operably connected to the transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
• control the transceiver to transmit a second positioning reference signal (PRS) to a user equipment (UE);
• control the transceiver to receive, from the UE, a request message to request a first cell to configure a first PRS to have a same slot duration as a slot duration of the second PRS, wherein the first PRS is transmitted by the first cell;
• and
• control the transceiver to transmit, to the first cell, a request for configuring the first PRS to have the same slot duration as the slot duration of the second PRS based on the request message,
• wherein a first Sub Carrier Spacing (SCS) of the first cell is lower than a second SCS of the second cell.

A first cell in a wireless communication system, the first cell comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor operably connected to the transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
• control the transceiver to transmit a first positioning reference signal (PRS) to a user equipment (UE);
• control the transceiver to receive, from a second cell, a request for configuring the first PRS to have a same slot duration as a slot duration of a second PRS, wherein the second PRS is transmitted by the second cell;
• and
• determine a slot duration of the first PRS based on the request to have the same slot duration as the slot duration of the second PRS,
• wherein a first Sub Carrier Spacing (SCS) of the first cell is lower than a second SCS of the second cell.
