Trailer camera communications system

A camera monitoring system for a vehicle including a tractor and trailer, comprising:

• a trailer having trailer components responsive to at least one control signal;
• a wiring harness in communication with the trailer components and having a connector configured to communicate with a tractor, the wiring harness configured to carry the at least one control signal to the trailer components;
• a sensor provided on the trailer and configured to generate a sensor signal;
• a processor interconnected between the sensor and the wiring harness, the processor configured to transform the sensor signal for transmission over the wiring harness with the at least one control signal using common wires within the wiring harness;
• and
• a filter interconnected between the processor and at least one of the trailer components and configured to filter noise from the at least one control signal.
