Abstract
An ultra-thin film superconducting tape and method for fabricating same is disclosed. Embodiments are directed to a superconducting tape being fabricated by processes which include removing a portion of the superconducting tape's substrate subsequent the substrate's initial formation, whereby a thickness of the superconducting tape is reduced to 15-80 μm.
Claims8
A superconductor wire comprising:
- a core having a diameter of at least 0.5 mm;
- and
- a stack of superconductor tapes spiral wound around the core;
- wherein the stack of superconductor tapes have an outside diameter between 0.7 mm and 3 mm while wound around the core, and
- wherein at least one of the superconductor tapes has a thickness in a range of 15-23 μm and an engineering current density of above 800 A/mm2 at 77 K, 0 T.
