Abstract
A method and apparatus is provided to use a value tag in conjunction with transmission and/or processing of system information in a wireless communication network, specifically in conjunction with second type system information or non-essential type system information. An access node may initiate broadcasting second type system information when the second type information content is updated, in order to avoid multiple on-demand delivery requests from wireless terminals. The access node may compress second type system information to be delivered by broadcast.
Claims20
An apparatus for a radio access network, the apparatus comprising:
- a memory storing instructions;
- and
- at least one processor configured to execute the instructions to cause the apparatus to:
- generate a first system information block (SIB), the first SIB comprising information essential for access to the radio access network and additional information, the additional information comprising an indication about whether a second SIB is to be transmitted by broadcasting or on-demand, the second SIB comprising non-essential information;
- set the information indicating that the second SIB is to be transmitted by broadcasting or on-demand when transmission of the second SIB is changed;
- transmit the first SIB;
- and
- transmit a message to user equipment for triggering reception of the first SIB.
A method for a radio access network, the method comprising:
- generating a first system information block (SIB), the first SIB comprising information essential for access to the radio access network and additional information, the additional information comprising an indication about whether a second SIB is to be transmitted by broadcasting or on-demand, the second SIB comprising non-essential information;
- setting the information indicating that the second SIB is to be transmitted by broadcasting or on-demand when transmission of the second SIB is changed;
- transmitting the first SIB;
- and
- transmitting a message to user equipment for triggering reception of the first SIB.
A user equipment for accessing a radio access network, the user equipment comprising:
- a memory storing instructions;
- and
- at least one processor configured to execute the instructions to cause the user equipment to:
- receive a message, the message triggering reception of a first system information block (SIB);
- receive the first SIB, the first SIB comprising information essential for access to the radio access network and additional information, the additional information comprising an indication about whether a second SIB is to be transmitted by broadcasting or on-demand, the second SIB comprising non-essential information;
- determine, based on the first SIB, whether transmission of a second SIB is changed;
- and
- receive a changed second SIB in response to a determination that the second SIB is changed.
A method for accessing a radio access network, the method comprising:
- receiving a message, the message triggering reception of a first system information block (SIB);
- receiving the first SIB, the first SIB comprising information essential for access to the radio access network and additional information, wherein the additional information comprises an indication about whether a second SIB is to be transmitted by broadcasting on-demand;
- determining, based on the first SIB, whether transmission of a second SIB is changed;
- and
- receiving a changed second SIB in response to a determination that the second SIB is changed.
