Mobile telecommunications network capacity simulation, prediction and planning

A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon instructions for causing a processing circuitry to execute a process for determining a future capacity required of a communication network, the process comprising:

• simulating a performance of a first communication network at a future date on which a planned event is to occur, the planned event being expected to cause an increase in demand for usage of the first communication network beyond a prescribed threshold with respect to a reference level, wherein the simulating is based on at least one data set providing indicative performance of the first communication network;
• identifying a predicted failure of at least one infrastructure element of the first communication network based on the simulated performance of the first communication network;
• and
• adjusting a capacity of the first communication network based on the simulated performance of the first communication network and an adjustment factor that endeavors to avoid the predicted failure and to meet the expected increase in demand for usage at the future date during the planned event.

A system for determining a future capacity required of a communication network, comprising:

• a processing circuitry;
• and
• a memory, the memory containing instructions that, when executed by the processing circuitry, configure the system to:
• simulate a performance of a first communication network at a future date on which a planned event is to occur, the planned event being expected to cause an increase in demand for usage of the first communication network beyond a prescribed threshold with respect to a reference level, wherein the simulating is based on at least one data set providing indicative performance of the first communication network;
• identify a predicted failure of at least one infrastructure element of the first communication network based on the simulated performance of the first communication network;
• and
• adjust a capacity of the first communication network based on the simulated performance of the first communication network and an adjustment factor that endeavors to avoid the predicted failure and to meet the expected increase in demand for usage at the future date during the planned event.
