Abstract
This disclosure describes techniques that enable a supplemental voltage to be delivered to a Remote Radio Unit (RRU) to compensate for a voltage loss that occurs between a primary Direct Current (DC) power source and the RRU. A supplemental voltage controller is described that captures current environmental metadata associated with an operation of the RRU and calculates an RRU voltage at the RRU. In doing so, the supplemental voltage controller may generate a supplemental voltage control signal that supplements the RRU with a supplemental DC voltage.

A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory including one or more modules that are executable by the one or more processors to:
- determine, via one or more sensors, a primary Direct Current (DC) voltage that is output from a primary DC power source;
- capture current environmental metadata that impacts an operation of a Remote Radio Unit (RRU), the current environmental metadata including one or more Quality of Service (QoS) parameters associated with data packet loss, data latency, jitter, echo, downlink throughput, or uplink throughput that are related to the RRU;
- calculate, at the RRU, an RRU voltage, based at least in part on the primary DC voltage;
- and
- in response to the RRU voltage being less than a predetermined voltage threshold, generate a supplemental voltage control signal for delivery to a supplemental DC power source, based at least in part on the current environmental metadata that includes one or more QoS parameters associated with data packet loss, data latency, jitter, echo, downlink throughput, or uplink throughput that are related to the RRU.
A computer-implemented method, comprising:
- determining a primary DC voltage that is output from a primary DC power source;
- capturing current environmental metadata associated with an operation of an RRU;
- calculating, at the RRU, an RRU voltage, based at least in part on the primary DC voltage from the primary DC power source and the current environmental metadata, the current environmental metadata including one or more Quality of Service (QoS) parameters associated with data packet loss, data latency, jitter, echo, downlink throughput, or uplink throughput that are related to the RRU;
- determining that the RRU voltage is less than a predetermined voltage threshold;
- and
- generating a supplemental voltage control signal for transmission to a supplemental DC power source, based at least the RRU voltage, the supplemental voltage control signal to include instructions that cause delivery of a supplemental DC voltage to the RRU.
One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed on one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:
- determining a primary DC voltage that is output from a primary DC power source;
- capturing current environmental metadata associated with an operation of an RRU, the current environmental metadata including one or more Quality of Service (QoS) parameters associated with data packet loss, data latency, jitter, echo, downlink throughput, or uplink throughput that are related to the RRU;
- determining an RRU voltage received at the RRU, based at least in part on the current environmental metadata that includes the one or more QoS parameters associated with data packet loss, data latency, jitter, echo, downlink throughput, or uplink throughput that are related to the RRU;
- in response to the RRU voltage being less than a predetermined voltage threshold, calculating a supplemental DC voltage;
- and
- generating a supplemental voltage control signal for delivery to a supplemental DC power source, based at least in part on the supplemental DC voltage.
