Enhanced links in curation and collaboration applications

A system comprising:

• a processor;
• a display;
• memory;
• and
• instructions stored on the memory that when executed by the processor directs the system to:
• determine, from content entered into a body of a collaboration application, a string of characters indicating a uniform resource locator (URL);
• upon determining the string of characters indicating the URL from the content entered into the body of the collaboration application, automatically call a first web service to obtain a representation of content referenced by the URL by sending a request to the first web service, wherein the request at least comprises the URL and content negotiation for a particular format for the content;
• receive the representation of the content referenced by the URL from the first web service in the format requested such that the content is for the collaboration application, a computing device on which the collaboration application is implemented, or both;
• and
• display the representation of the content referenced by the URL in the body of the collaboration application.

A computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon, that when executed by a processor, perform a method comprising:

• determining, from content entered into a body of a collaboration application, a string of characters indicating a uniform resource locator (URL);
• upon determining the string of characters indicating the URL from the content entered into the body of the collaboration application, automatically calling a first web service to obtain a representation of content referenced by the URL by sending a request to the first web service, wherein the request at least comprises the URL and content negotiation for a particular format for the content;
• receiving the representation of the content referenced by the URL from the first web service in the format requested such that the content is for the collaboration application, a computing device on which the collaboration application is implemented, or both;
• and
• displaying the representation of the content referenced by the URL in the body of the collaboration application.
