Abstract
A well sampling apparatus is described herein. The well sampling apparatus includes one or more pressure-activated samplers in a sampling assembly. The samplers are coupled to an activating mechanism that includes a remotely activated local actuator. The remotely activated local actuator is coupled to a pressure source that, when released by the remotely activated local actuator, operates the pressure-activated sample to obtain a sample fluid.
Claims19
A sampling assembly, comprising:
- a body defining a sampling chamber, a displacement chamber, and a passage between the sampling chamber and the displacement chamber, wherein the body comprises an axis extending through the sampling chamber, the displacement chamber, and the passage, wherein the body defines a port positioned crosswise to the axis and configured to release overpressure within the sampling chamber, and wherein the body is configured to store a pressurized fluid as a pressure source in the sampling chamber;
- a pressure-activated sampler disposed in the sampling chamber;
- and
- an actuated pressure applicator fluidly coupled to the pressure-activated sampler, wherein the actuated pressure applicator comprises an electronic rupture disk having a rupture member configured to hold the pressurized fluid in the sampling chamber, wherein the electronic rupture disk comprises a remotely-operated local actuator configured to pierce the rupture member to release the pressurized fluid to flow from the sampling chamber, through the passage, to the displacement chamber, wherein the pressure-activated sampler is configured to receive a sample of a reservoir fluid of a well in response to pressure activation caused by the release of the pressurized fluid, and wherein the rupture member is disposed in the passage, the rupture member extends crosswise to the axis, and the port intersects the passage.

A sampling assembly, comprising:
- a plurality of pressure-activated samplers;
- a plurality of actuated pressure applicators fluidly coupled to the plurality of pressure- activated samplers, each actuated pressure applicator of the plurality of actuated pressure applicators comprising:
- a first chamber, a second chamber, and a passage between the first chamber and the second chamber, wherein an axis extends through the first chamber, the second chamber, and the passage, wherein a port is positioned crosswise to the axis and configured to release overpressure within the first chamber, and wherein each actuated pressure applicator of the plurality of actuated pressure applicators is configured to store a pressurized fluid as a pressure source in the first chamber;
- and
- an electronic rupture disk comprising a remotely-operated local actuator and a rupture member coupled to the passage, wherein the rupture member is configured to hold the pressurized fluid in the first chamber, wherein the remotely-operated local actuator is configured to pierce the rupture member to release the pressurized fluid to flow from the first chamber to the second chamber, and wherein the rupture member is disposed in the passage, the rupture member extends crosswise to the axis, and the port intersects the passage;
- and
- a controller configured to receive a signal representing one actuated pressure applicator of the plurality of actuated pressure applicators and to activate the one actuated pressure applicator represented by the signal to release the pressurized fluid to flow through the passage between the first and second chambers, wherein one pressure-activated sampler of the plurality of pressure-activated samplers is configured to receive a sample of a reservoir fluid of a well in response to a pressure activation caused by the release of the pressurized fluid.

A sampling assembly, comprising:
- a body defining a first chamber, a second chamber, and a passage between the first chamber and the second chamber, wherein the body comprises an axis extending through the first chamber, the second chamber, and the passage, wherein the body defines a port positioned crosswise to the axis and configured to release overpressure within the first chamber, and wherein the body is configured to store a pressurized fluid as a pressure source in the first chamber;
- a pressure-activated sampler disposed in the first chamber;
- and
- an actuated pressure applicator comprising an electronic rupture disk configured to release the pressurized fluid to flow through the passage between the first and second chambers, wherein the electronic rupture disk comprises a rupture member configured to hold the pressurized fluid in the first chamber, wherein the electronic rupture disk comprises an actuator configured to pierce the rupture member to release the pressurized fluid from the first chamber, through the passage, and to the second chamber, wherein the rupture member is disposed in the passage, the rupture member extends crosswise to the axis, and the port intersects the passage, and wherein the pressure-activated sampler is configured to receive a sample of a reservoir fluid of a well in response to a pressure activation caused by the release of the pressurized fluid.
