Abstract
Aerogel can be coated with a polymerizable resin, which cures to form a polymer-coated aerogel. The coated aerogels can be used structural or thermal insulating component, such as in analytical and scientific devices. Coated aerogels can be further coated with conductive material, a semi-conductive material, a non-conductive material, a resistive material, or a combination thereof.
Claims12
An ion mobility spectrometer operative on a sample, the spectrometer comprising:
- a) an inlet for the sample, an ionization region, and a drift tube, and
- b) an aerogel at least partially between the inlet and the ionization region, the aerogel providing a thermal break between the inlet and the ionization region.
An ion mobility spectrometer operative on a sample, the spectrometer comprising:
- a) an inlet for the sample, an ionization region, and a drift tube;
- b) an aerogel at least partially between the inlet and the ionization region;
- and
- c) an aerogel at least partially between the ionization region and the drift tube.
An ion mobility spectrometer operative on a sample, the spectrometer comprising:
- a) an inlet for the sample, an ionization region, and a drift tube;
- b) an aerogel at least partially between the inlet and the ionization region;
- and
- c) an aerogel at least partially surrounding the inlet, the ionization region, and the drift tube.
