Abstract
Embodiments relate to transportation systems. More particularly, embodiments relate to methods and systems of vehicle data collection by a user having a mobile device. In a particular embodiment, vehicle data (also termed herein “driving data” or “data”) is collected, analyzed and transformed, and combinations of collected data and transformed data are used in different ways, including, but not limited to, predicting, detecting, and reconstructing vehicle accidents.
Claims20
A method of detecting vehicle accidents, the method comprising:
- measuring a plurality of movements of a vehicle by operating a sensor of a mobile device in the vehicle during a drive to generate a plurality of measurements;
- obtaining a predefined accident threshold value for the sensor, wherein the predefined accident threshold value represents a minimum value obtained from the sensor that is indicative of a potential accident;
- identifying a first measurement in the plurality of measurements that exceeds the predefined accident threshold value;
- and
- responsive to identifying the first measurement:
- identifying, based on the first measurement, a first subset of the plurality of measurements within a first time window having a first time duration that captures the first measurement, wherein the first subset of the plurality of measurements includes the first measurement and at least one measurement measured before the first measurement;
- processing the first subset of the plurality of measurements to identify a second time window having a second time duration less than or equal to the first time duration that includes a second subset of the first subset of the plurality of measurements including the first measurement;
- and
- determining that measurements included in the second subset are indicative of a vehicle accident involving the vehicle during the drive.
A mobile device configured to be located in a vehicle, the mobile device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more memory storing instructions that, upon execution by the one or more processors, configure the mobile device to:
- measure a plurality of movements of the vehicle by operating a sensor of the mobile device in the vehicle during a drive to generate a plurality of measurements;
- obtain a predefined accident threshold value for the sensor, wherein the predefined accident threshold value represents a minimum value obtained from the sensor that is indicative of a potential accident;
- identify a first measurement in the plurality of measurements that exceeds the predefined accident threshold value;
- and
- responsive to identifying the first measurement:
- identify, based on the first measurement, a first subset of the plurality of measurements within a first time window having a first time duration that captures the first measurement, wherein the first subset of the plurality of measurements includes the first measurement and at least one measurement measured before the first measurement;
- process the first subset of the plurality of measurements to identify a second time window having a second time duration less than or equal to the first time duration that includes a second subset of the first subset of the plurality of measurements including the first measurement;
- and
- determine that measurements included in the second subset are indicative of a vehicle accident involving the vehicle during the drive.
One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing a set of instructions, wherein the set of instructions when executed by one or more processors cause:
- measuring a plurality of movements of a vehicle by operating a sensor of a mobile device in the vehicle during a drive to generate a plurality of measurements;
- obtaining a predefined accident threshold value for the sensor, wherein the predefined accident threshold value represents a minimum value obtained from the sensor that is indicative of a potential accident;
- identifying a first measurement in the plurality of measurements that exceeds the predefined accident threshold value;
- responsive to identifying the first measurement:
- identifying, based on the first measurement, a first subset of the plurality of measurements within a first time window having a first time duration that captures the first measurement, wherein the first subset of the plurality of measurements includes the first measurement and at least one measurement measured before the first measurement;
- processing the first subset of the plurality of measurements to identify a second time window having a second time duration less than or equal to the first time duration that includes a second subset of the first subset of the plurality of measurements including the first measurement;
- and
- determining that measurements included in the second subset are indicative of a vehicle accident in the vehicle during the drive.
