Location based audio signal message processing

A method to modify an acoustic signal received by a user, comprising:

• determining a location and an orientation of a user in a virtual environment at time t1;
• determining a location and an orientation of a first virtual audio source;
• determining a location and an orientation of a second virtual audio source;
• determining a navigational information of the user at the time t1;
• receiving a first environmental impulse response associated with the first virtual audio source;
• receiving a second environmental impulse response associated with the second virtual audio source;
• receiving an audio signal;
• modifying the first environmental impulse based upon a difference between the location and orientation of the first virtual audio source and the location and orientation of the user;
• modifying the second environmental impulse based upon a difference between the location and orientation of the second virtual audio source and the location and orientation of the user;
• convolving the audio signal using the modified first environmental impulse and the modified second environmental impulse;
• and
• directing the convolved audio signal to a loudspeaker.
